Man Arrested By Denton Police In Connection With Shooting That Left A Toddler In Serious Condition

After a 10-year-old boy was shot by Denton Police, a man was detained and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Numerous residents reported hearing numerous gunshots at a mobile home park in the 3900 block of Teasley Lane to Denton police at 7:42 p.m. on July 4. The kid was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. His situation is still critical.

According to detectives, the youngster and his mother were waiting outside a house when 39-year-old Travis Rollins pulled up in a pickup truck. After firing his rifle, he exited the vehicle and started his car.

The youngster was hit by gunfire, as were surrounding homes. There were no other recorded injuries. Rollins was revealed to be the boy’s mother’s ex-boyfriend. Following a traffic stop in their city, Duncanville police spotted Rollins at 9:30 p.m. and detained him on an unrelated warrant.

Rollins is being held in the City of Denton Jail with bond set at $1.1 million, which includes $100,000 for the Ellis County Warrant in addition to $500,000 for each Denton charge. According to Denton police, Rollins is the only suspect in the incident, and there is no danger to the public.
